The Youth Engagement Officer plays a key role in supporting the development, facilitation, and evaluation of programs, activities, and events aimed at addressing the needs, interests, aspirations, and challenges of young people in the Southern Grampians Shire. This position is integral in fostering youth participation, creating a supportive environment, and promoting community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Coordination: Plan, coordinate, and evaluate a range of youth-centered activities, events, and programs that respond to identified local needs and interests.
  • Youth Initiatives: Oversee the delivery of activities and events aligned with Youth funding requirements, ensuring they are relevant and impactful.
  • Youth Engagement: Actively involve young people in all phases of program planning, delivery, and evaluation to ensure their voices are heard and valued.
  • Safety and Support: Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe, inclusive, and youth-friendly environment, with risks identified and managed effectively.
  • Community Engagement: Facilitate deliberative engagement processes involving young people, their families, and the broader community to inform Council activities and decision-making.
  • Skill Development: Provide opportunities for young people to build skills and confidence through participation in community, cultural, recreational, and youth events.
  • Network Building: Establish and maintain strong relationships with local community groups, agencies, and stakeholders to enhance program outcomes.

This role requires a passion for youth empowerment, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to foster meaningful connections within the community.
